Sunday, Feb 13th. Today we are off to explore Uluru/Ayers Rock and the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta National Park (the Olgas). Entry to the park was $25 each and this entitles us to a three day pass. It was 25C when we headed out this morning at 8 am .... quite comfortable ....but it got hot quick. Coming here off season, is great as there are no line ups, no traffic and just the occasional tour bus. The Uluru Cultural Centre was well worth visiting. It took about an hour and we gained a lot of insight into the aboriginal history and culture. They are resilient people to survive in the outback. 
We spent a couple of hours exploring Uluru. The sheer size and spiritual significance of this monolith are awe inspiring. Words and pictures don't capture its beauty or size.
At certain times of the year, the rock climb is open but it is discouraged to climb. Many people have been hurt or died. It's steep climb of 1.6km. Zoom into the pic to see the chain you have to follow up the steep incline.
It was getting hotter, the flies were getting thicker and driving us crazy in areas where there was no breeze. We should have bought those fly nets from the gift shop but Eugene was too cheap .... and we thought they'd look goofy LOL. They bothered him the most!!
After lunch we went to explore Kata Tjuta. We headed down the Valley of the Winds Walk and made it part way to the second lookout on the steep rocky paths before turning back. The heat was getting too intense (low to mid 30's) and the flies were getting even worse ...We drank about 3 litres of water each!!!! If you go to the outback in a motor home, buy lots of water in 20 litre jugs before you head there. You will need them and it's much cheaper.
