A busy day!!!

Wed., Feb 9th was about 15C when we left.  Headed to the Mount Lofty Summit which is 710 metres above sea level and has a stunning panoramic view of Adelaide and surrounding area.









From there we went to Cleland Wildlife Park.  Entry was $17 each plus $3 for a bag of "creature" food.  We were allowed to feed this to any creatures wandering freely about of which there were several species!!  We hand fed several varieties of kangaroo and wallabies and many different feathered creatures.
We also saw dingos, potoroos, bandicoots, bettongs, monitors, snakes and wombats.  By the way we learned , the saying ``It`s a two-dog night`` has aboriginal origins.  It comes from the aboriginal habit of using dingos as bed-warmers.   A two-dog night is a very cold night.



We also got to pet a beautiful 16 year old male Koala named Osmond and take pictures as he sat in a tree being fed leaves by his keeper.  The keeper said he is like a "grandfather"  and very calm while he chewed away on the leaves.








Then we headed off to the Adelaide Hills for some wine tasting at a small vineyard - Golding Wines.  We bought a bottle of Shiraz  for $20.  (It better be good!!)  Then we headed to the Barssosa Valley wine region and took the "long route" to the Wolf Blass winery.  We did some tasting there were but were disappointed that we didn`t really like any of the samples.....










On the road again.  Going to the ``Outback``!  After a very intense drive through windy car and a half wide roads we made our way back to A1 the main highway.  We headed north on A1 at 110km per hour ..... yippee .... straight road - no tight turns, no blind corners!  We stopped just outside of Port Pirie (about 90 km south of Port Augusta)  around 5:30 pm and the temp was around 35C.  Rangeview Caravan Park for $22 for the powered site has a wonderful view of the south end of the Flinders Ranges.  Bonus .... Wed night is free BBQ dinner cooked by the very friendly owner.  Yum, Yum ..... lamb chops, burgers, sausages, bacon, curried deviled eggs and salad.  BYOB  ... We also got to meet the other park guests ..... made for a great evening and lots of entertaining info!!! Some interesting characters!!! The clear skies at night here are so beautiful .... full of bright stars!!
