Bowen & Dingo Beach north end of Whitsundays

Fri., Feb 25th we headed a bit north up the coast to Bowen "where the bush meets the beach".  The beaches in this area are supposed to be spectacular.  Not so much ....  maybe it's the time of year and the weather.  We couldn't swim anyway as we don't have "stinger suits".  It's better to visit the northern part of OZ during their winter June - September when the waters are stinger free and you can really enjoy the beaches without the clown suit.   Some beaches have netted swimming enclosures where it is safer to swim.  Haven't found any yet that are operational.  We had a beautiful view of Bowen and the northern end of the Whitsunday islands from a lookout and 360 degree cafe on Flagstaff Hill.

While there we heard this bird singing a beautiful song which we recorded.

Just then, the chef came out and the bird flew away.  We had a great chat with this former Kiwi (New Zealander) and learned that it was a "butcher" bird which enjoys eating raw meat.  It will actually fly into your house if there is a plate of raw meat out and the window/door is open and steal it.  We then headed to a more secluded beach area called Dingo Beach.  This was a much nicer beach which we enjoyed strolling along.

We were parched so we headed to the "Dingo Pub" for a cold one.  Quaint  little pub where we met an interesting local gentleman who asked about our journeys and then pretty much told us his life story ..... LOL .... we have met so many friendly people here both Aussies and other travellers from all over the world!!
