Airlie beach area

Tues., Feb 22nd.  We were up by 6 and left camp shortly after 7.  It's still a bit cloudy.  We had quite a light show last night but very little rain!!!  Brisbane got 90 mm ..... Glad we are north of there now!  It is cooler today with a high expected of 30C.  Tracy debated on putting on a sweater....LOL There was flash flooding between Bundaberg and Brisbane.  We're about 180km north of that area thank goodness.  It cleared up nicely as we headed north towards Mackay.

The fuel economy on this Ford turbo diesel is much better than the automatic VW .... about 10.8l/100km or 9.3km/l (about the same as our CRV back home).  Tracy kept looking behind thinking there were sirens because of the "turbo whine" even though Eugene was not speeding.

We passed through Rockhampton (just north of the Tropic of Capricorn) which is the beef capital of OZ.  We'll have to stop for a steak on the way back we have been told.  Soon we were seeing a lot of sugar cane fields.  We passed through MacKay which is a large "sugar town".

We  made it to Airlie Beach in Whitsunday and staying at the Big4 Whitsunday Adventure Resort .... very nice and clean park with beautiful landscaping .... palms surrounding each site!!!  We're here for 3 nights at $29/night for a powered site.

Tomorrow the island and reef tours begin.... very excited!
