Blue Lake - so beautiful!

Today, Tuesday, Feb 8th.  It`s warmer today expected to be 29 in Adelaide (the direction we are headed).  We passed a huge wind farm in Codrington.  Next we stopped in Mount Gambier in the Limestone Coast area of South Australia. It is halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide.  It is  famous for the Blue Lake which is a crater lake that changes to a dramatic blue during summer.  The theories on this change are many!  This lake provides all the drinking water for Mount Gambier as it is filtered through limestone beneath the city .. beautiful!!!

We then travelled inland and north through the Coonwarra winery area with a climate similar to Bordeaux, France.  The landscape and temperatures are changing as we drive along.   Getting warmer as we head north from gently rolling hills to prairies.  Lots of vineyards ..... the time has now changed also.  We are 15.5 hours ahead of our home in Canada.  By the time we are about 1.5 hours south of Adelaide it is 30C (3:00 pm) and very dry.  As we reach Tailem Bend, we are getting into a higher altitude and rolling hills and the temp is dropping.  We are at about 24C as we stop for the night in Mount Barker about 30 Km from Adelaide.  This is in the Adelaide Hills area .... very beautiful.  Tomorrow we will do a wine tour of the area, see Mount Lofty and visit Cleland Wildlife Park.  Here we will get very close to the creatures of OZ.  Mileage so far is about 2600 km - day 10 of the motor home.  This VW is getting about 11L per 100 on the open road.. WOW very impressive!  Diesel is at $1.39 per litre.
